It can be helpful to know more about how we work. We are trained in a number of counselling approaches.

Our aim is to use the type of counselling or psychotherapy that is most appropriate to each individual client, based on the client’s needs at the time. A type of therapy that works well for one person may not work well for someone else.

Therapy can be short or longer-term and our clients can end therapy at any time, just by letting us know.

Therapy is a very personal experience. Each client needs to feel positive about their therapist so that a trusting, confidential relationship can develop. It’s through this private relationship that therapy is effective.

Modern therapy is a collaborative, responsive process between you and your therapist

Counselling and psychotherapy has evolved to meet the needs of a more informed, technology-based society. Therapists no longer ‘just listen’.  Instead, you and your therapist will discuss your life experiences together and resolve any personal issues you wish to address.

Our therapists are not silent. They are supportive and collaborative and involved in your progress every step of the way.

There are no limits to what can be discussed in therapy. Therapy has many benefits and can be about anything that’s on your mind.

We are trained in several styles of therapy

The types of counselling we employ most often include psychodynamic psychotherapy, which looks at the past and considers the impact the past may be having on current behaviour. We also use person-centred counselling, which helps clients find solutions to problems in a careful, non-judgemental way.

There are other kinds of therapy we use from time to time like cognitive behavioural therapy, a type of therapy that attempts to change the way a person thinks or behaves.

We also provide couples counselling, to help resolve issues within personal relationships.

Frequently-asked questions

"I learned a lot about myself and about the relationships I make with other people. I was able to see where I was going wrong and I now make better personal choices. Thank you, again."

"I was able to confront many issues which I had so far chosen to ignore despite their negative effects on my personal relationships and happiness. I would have no hesitation in recommending (One Therapy) to anyone looking to improve their relationships and self-esteem."

My therapist was completely non-judgemental which allowed me to be totally honest in the sessions and say how I was feeling without reservation. I felt comfortable talking with him and it was a really valuable experience that I would thoroughly recommend.

Therapy helped me through a difficult time. I gained so much insight into myself and my life. My first experience of therapy was excellent. I am so grateful to One Therapy for this.
